How to use the notepad

  1. Click inside the box and start typing. Everything saves automatically about half a second after you stop.
  2. Watch the live word and character counts above the box to track your draft length.
  3. Press Download .txt when you want a copy on your device, or Clear if you want to start over. Clearing asks you to confirm first, so a stray click never wipes your notes.

Tips for fast note taking

  • Use the notepad for timed writing sprints, then paste your draft into the word counter to check it meets your target length.
  • Short, frequent notes beat long ones: capture ideas the moment they appear and expand them later.
  • Download a backup before clearing your browser data, since the saved note lives in this browser only.
  • Want to type faster so notes take less time? A quick typing test shows your current speed, and the keyboard test makes sure every key you rely on actually works.

Frequently asked questions

Is this notepad really free?

Yes. There is no account, no signup, and no paywall. You can type as much as you want, download your notes, and come back any time. The tool runs entirely in your browser.

Where are my notes saved?

Your notes are stored in your browser's local storage on this device, about half a second after you stop typing. Nothing is sent to a server, so your notes stay private to you. If you clear your browser data, the saved note is cleared with it.

Can I download my notes?

Yes. Click Download .txt to save your notes as a plain text file on your device. Plain text opens everywhere: Windows Notepad, macOS TextEdit, Google Docs, and every phone.

How does the word counter work?

The counter updates live as you type. Words are blocks of text separated by spaces or line breaks, and the character count includes every keystroke. It is the same simple rule most writing tools use.
