Press Speak to hear your text read aloud with the chosen voice, speed, and pitch.

How to use the reader

  1. Type or paste your text into the box (up to 5,000 characters).
  2. Pick a voice from the list, then set the reading speed and pitch with the sliders.
  3. Press Speak. Pause, resume, or stop the reading whenever you like.

Tips

  • Proofread by ear: hearing your essay or email read aloud catches mistakes your eyes skip.
  • Slow the speed to 0.8x when studying. Slower speech gives your brain time to absorb each sentence.
  • Try a different voice if the first one sounds robotic. Voices vary a lot between devices.
  • Break long documents into chunks so you can pause and take notes between sections.

Frequently asked questions

How does the text to speech reader work?

It uses the speech synthesis feature built into your own browser, so your text is turned into audio on your device. There is no account, no API key, and no server doing the work, which also means it works even when you are offline once the page has loaded.

Which voices can I choose from?

The voice list comes from your device and browser. Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS each ship with their own voices, and Chrome adds a few of its own. That is why the list looks different on every computer: the tool simply hands you every voice your browser reports.

Why is there a 5,000 character limit?

Very long texts can make browsers stutter or stop reading halfway, especially on phones. The limit keeps playback smooth. For anything longer, split your text into sections of a few thousand characters and read them one at a time.

Is my text recorded or uploaded anywhere?

No. The text stays in the page and is passed straight to your browser's speech engine. TypeArena never receives, stores, or listens to it, so you can read drafts, notes, or anything personal without worry.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. Mobile Safari and Chrome both support speech synthesis, and the page is built for small screens. For the best experience, plug in earphones and keep the tab open while it reads.
